Five simple steps to perfect translations

Let suppose you want to translate a text from French into Greek, but you do not speak Greek. But you do speak French and English.

Original text

  • This is your original text (or .docx file) in French, which you want to translate. This will the base for comparison later.

Reference text

  • Your original text (French) is first translated into a reference language (English). The reference language is the language which we will edit if necessary and it will be used as reference by the MT (machine translation) for all next translations.

Back Translation (Validation text)

  • The reference text (English) is then translated back into the source language (French). This back-translated version is called "Validation text."

Comparison and Edit

  • We will compare the validation text with the original text. While the validation text may not read exactly like the original, the factual information should remain consistent. If you’re not satisfied, you can now edit the reference text (English) and then back-translate again until you achieve the desired result.

Final Translation

  • Once you're confident that the machine translator correctly understood the context of your reference text, you can safely translate this text into any language available — all at once.

This is a manual method, using the usual MT (machine translation) like Google Translate, DeepL, etc.
